He won Nobel Prize in Literature in 1954 and Pulitzer Prize for Fiction in 1953. His father was a physician and his mother was a musician. Major works are Three Stories and Ten Poems (1923), The Sun Also Rises (1926), Death in the Afternoon (1932) and To Have and Have Not (1937).
