Madame Bovary PDF novel is the novel of French author Gustave Flaubert’s. The novel covers the story of Emma Bovary a doctor wife. She is involved in multiple adulterous affairs and also she is extravagant, lavish and lives beyond her means so as to escape the emptiness and banalities of her provincial life. On the other hand, Emma is rather a silly, bored, young woman, who is very passionate but uneducated about realities of the life. Emma is the daughter of a farmer and lives in a village on a farm. The story is set in 19th Century, France. Emma’s father is a widower, still gentle, remote, a father named Monsieur Rouault. He is anxious to get his daughter married, as she considers his daughter as useless. He enjoys his work as a farmer but is not very skilled at it, but he is a better businessman.

She believes in their romantic plot of books, forbidding castles, moonlight walks, eerie, strange lands, dangerous flights, where someone is always trying to escape their frightening captors, virtuous women,  handsome men who are not just brave but also faithful to their beautiful women, a fight between good and evil, monstrous and corrupt but attractive libertines.

Emma hates the monotonous country, she dreams of the city life, especially Paris, where everything is fabulous. She chose to marry a dull but hard-working, good doctor named Charles Bovary so that she is able to escape her current boring life. Before marriage, she had hope that her marriage will land her into the world of fantasies. Little she knew that marriage does not turn life into a fantasy novel. After marriage she becomes dull and disappointed, she then starts having affairs while still married, so as to live a life of a romantic novel.


Emma Bovary: She is the main character in the novel. She is Madame Bovary and Charles’s mother.
Charles Bovary: He is another character husband of Emma, He is very simple and common man.He is a doctor.
Rodolphe Boulanger: He is a rich man who seduces Emma for a long string of mistresses.
Monsieur Homais: He is a pharmacist in the town.He practices medicine without a license.

Gustave Flaubert Short Biography

Gustave Flaubert was a French novelist. His best novel is Madame Bovary. He was born on 12 December 1821 and died on 8 May 1880 in France. He had a relationship with the poet Louise Colet from 1846 to 1854.Rêve Denver (1837), Sentimental Education (1869), Le Candidat (1874), Bouvard et Pécuchet (1881) and Dictionary of Received Ideas (1911) these are his some famous books.
